The quick reference
- Scheduled
- The fixture is listed but has not started.
- Live
- Play is believed to be in progress.
- HT
- Half-time; the interval normally cannot exceed 15 minutes.
- FT
- Normal playing time has ended. In a knockout match, extra time or penalties may still follow.
- Postponed
- The match did not start at the planned time and may be rearranged.
- Suspended
- Play stopped temporarily; resumption is not yet confirmed.
- Abandoned
- The referee ended the match before its scheduled finish.
Abandoned does not automatically mean replayed
IFAB’s Laws say an abandoned match is replayed unless competition rules or organisers determine otherwise. That final decision can instead involve resumption, a result being awarded or another competition-specific outcome. Wait for the league, federation or organiser’s notice before updating a record as final.
Why live feeds sometimes disagree
Providers receive events at different speeds and may map organiser notices into their own labels. A feed can temporarily show delayed, interrupted or suspended while verification is underway. The safest order is: official competition notice, official club notice, then a reputable data provider.
How to verify a status
- Check whether the displayed time is the scheduled time or an elapsed-match clock.
- Open the competition’s fixture page.
- Look for a dated notice from the organiser.
- For an abandoned match, do not assume the score stands.
